Branding

Once the concept and company name was finalized, I started to decide on the look and feel of the blog. For my blog, I wanted simple and neutral colors with well designed post types.

    Blog Name

  • Womens Self Help Blog

    Location

  • San Diego, CA

    Topics

  • Recipes
  • Physical Activity
  • Setting Goals
  • Achieving Milestones

Style Tile

This document was used to get the look and feel of the website visualized with the navigation bar, colors, fonts and imagery.

Client Discovery

I developed a client discovery document for myself to fill out to have a clear idea of my goal. This document is an excellent way to quickly get an overview about the projectvpriorities, competitors and call to actions. Listing out the website pages also start the process for my information architecture.

    Insights

  • WordPress Theme should offer flexible menu feature for customize, like a dropdown.
  • Multiple post types are needed.
  • Simple, clean and neutral colors are a great solution for an eye catching color palette.

Page Templates

The content inventory table was used to plan out how many templates I will need for my theme. These control the markup and content display of the different pages on the site. Every time a user visits a different page of my blog, the "wordpress brain" determines which "Template File" to load.

Content Inventory

Template File Template Level Page Title Content Type
index 1 Blog Feed Blog Posts
page 2 About Basic Text
author 3 Profile User Information
single 4 Single Post Post Content
archive-nutrition 5 Balanced Nutrition Custom Post
archive-activity 5 Physical Activity Custom Post
archive-goal 5 Setting Goals Custom Post
archive-milestone 5 Achieving Milestones Custom Post

Wireframes

Before I started developing the new website, I created a phone, tablet, and desktop wireframe screens for the blog, about, profile, single post and search page. The blog and search pages ended up using the same page template because how how similar their layouts and contents were. The wireframes helped me decide on what kind out post types I wanted, which I then created in the development stage.
